THE BIG READ IS ON! The Iola Reads community selection for 2024 is “True Grit”, the Charles Portis novel made even more famous by the John Wayne movie. Free copies of the book are now available in the familiar yellow tubs, at the library and businesses around town. You may return the book or pass it on; if you wish to keep the book, a $2 donation is appreciated.
A 14-year-old girl narrates the story, set in the 1870s Old West of Arkansas and Oklahoma. Seeking vengeance for the murder of her father, she teams up with a reluctant, aging, one-eyed U. S. marshal and a good-looking Texas Ranger with big spurs and two impressive revolvers hanging from his fancy gun belt.
