The Role:
The Iola Public Library is seeking an Adult Services Librarian to provide proactive customer service, staff the service desk, assist in collection development, and coordinate the planning and implementation of programs and services for adults. The applicant must demonstrate a working knowledge of the principles and practices of public librarianship.
The Adult Services Librarian is a full-time, 40-hour per week, non-exempt position with an hourly rate of $18.00 – $20.00 per hour, starting pay dependent on qualifications and experience. Benefits include health insurance, KPERS, and generous vacation, sick time, and paid holidays.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, plan, and schedule programming designed for adults and seniors.
- Coordinate with volunteers to manage the Homebound service.
- Serve as Librarian in Charge when senior leadership is not present.
- Provide exceptional customer service while performing circulation desk duties using the computerized integrated library system (ILS).
- Serve as a Passport Agent and Notary Public.
- Assist in material selection and collection management.
- Organize and execute special projects as assigned.
- Participate in professional training and continuing education opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
- Preferred: Experience in public libraries.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to build effective, positive, professional relationships with staff, community partners, and the public.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to express ideas clearly and effectively.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and priorities.
- Ability to exercise independent, mature judgment and responsible decision-making with significant impact on library services.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Google Workspace, WordPress, library ILS, Canva, and Zoom.
- Ability to adapt to changing needs, priorities, and organizational goals.

- Ability to work in a dynamic, public-facing environment with diverse tasks and responsibilities.
