HAVE A POEM AND SHARE IT! This is Poem in Your Pocket day in Iola. Short, traditional poems are being handed out around town, winding up our annual celebration of National Poetry Month. Besides the library, you can find them at banks, businesses around the square, and the hospital. HAVE A POEM AND SHARE IT! This is Poem in Your Pocket day in Iola. Short, traditional poems are being handed out around town, winding up our annual celebration of National Poetry Month. Besides the library, you can find them at banks, businesses around the square, and the hospital. The poems come from the Academy of American Poets and include the likes of William Wordsworth, Sara Teasdale, Robert Frost, Langston Hughes and Emily Dickinson.

CHILDREN'S AUTHOR ERICA PERL will be at the library Tues., April 30, for a 5-6 p.m. meet-and-greet and book signing in the meeting room. The first 10 attendees will receive a free book, and books will be available for purchase. Refreshments will be served. Her appearance here comes between two days of school visits: Iola and Yates Center, April 30; Humboldt, Moran and Colony, May 1. The author visit program is funded by the Helen Gates Whitehead Trust.

Perl writes picture books, chapter books, novels, plays and more. Her books have landed on numerous awards lists. She co-authored a confidence-building book with Dolly Parton, "Billy the Kid Makes It Big". Many of her books for early readers feature animals in humorous and unusual situations,

Sign up is now available for our Mother's Tea that will take place on May 10th. It will be here at the Iola Public Library in the meeting room at 6pm. There is a cost of $10 each seat. There are only 20 seats available.
Come and enjoy as we provide a lovely Tea for you. We will be serving lots of very special items including sweet and savory along with tea of course.

DEL SHIELDS' COWBOY POETRY program the other night at Bowlus Recital Hall drew an appreciative audience that sang along to the closing numbers, "Cattle Call" and "Cool Water". In between musical numbers, Del recited cowboy poetry by him and others, including the humorous classic, "Purt Near Perkins" (hear it on YouTube).
