We have a full month of activities planned for October!
Along with our monthly and weekly activities, like storytime, In Stitches, YA In Stitches, Book Talk, Old Timers Talking, and now Genealogy Assistance, we have several EXTRA events to share:
- Saturday, Oct. 4: Dungeons and Dragons Tomb of Annihilation game at 9 am. Miniatures and supplies provided.
- Monday, Oct. 6: Iola Reads begins and tubs of the book Hidden Figures (Young Readers Edition) by Margot Lee Shetterly will be distributed throughout town. We will explore all things science!
- Tuesday, Oct. 28: Iola Reads Presents Spin, Pop, Boom by Mad Science from KC at the Bowlus Fine Arts Center at 6:30 pm.
- Wednesday, Oct. 8: From 2-6 pm, the Southeast Kansas Library System’s Digital Navigator will be at the Library to answer your technology questions.
- Wednesday, Oct. 15: Dinner on a Dime at the K-State Extension Office at 6 pm.
- October 16-19: Friends of the Library Used Book Sale starts with the Members’ Only preview on Thursday evening and wraps on on Sunday with $1 bag o’ books.
- Saturday, Oct. 18: Along with Extra Stiches, we are hosting a Purse and Backpack swap from 9 to 3 pm in the library, while the book sale is happening during Farm City Days.
- Saturday, Oct. 25: With Angie from Clocktower, learn tips for a with Home Fall Refresh at 2 pm.
- Wednesday, Oct. 29: Death Café at 6:30 pm to drink tea, eat cake, and talk about death, dying, and what really matters in a safe, confidential and supportive space. Suitable for Teens and adults.

Jon Underwood founded Death Café based on the work of Bernard Crettaz, with Lizzy Miles being the first person to offer a Death Café in the US. Our Cafe will be hosted by the Library and Melissa D. Irwin, PhD., who earned a doctorate in sociology and specializes in death studies, culture, and online social networking sites and behavior.
- Thursday, Oct. 30: Craft Night at 6 pm, register at the library to make denim bracelets with Jen!
Youth Activities for October include:
- Storytimes with Ms. Lesa on Wednesday mornings at 10:30 am, Oct. 1, Oct. 8, Oct. 15, and Oct. 22
- Oct. 3 at 10:30 am: 1st Friday Storytime
- Oct. 14 at 4 pm: STEM Party
- Oct. 23 at 2 pm: Kids Halloween Get-together and Movie
